NBA owners met in New York around September 15-16 to discuss expansion into Las Vegas and Seattle, with a new round of Las Vegas bids due September 17. Reported bid values have climbed above $10 billion for a Las Vegas franchise, with Seattle proposals trailing around $7 billion. Commissioner Adam Silver has said he hopes for a decision by year-end 2026, targeting a 2028-29 tip-off, though no formal vote has occurred. A $10 billion expansion fee would rival the price of a mid-tier existing NFL franchise.
Netflix, Amazon and YouTube form D.C. lobbying coalition over sports streaming rights
On September 14, Netflix, Amazon and YouTube launched the Streaming Access and Choice Alliance (SACA), a Washington advocacy group aimed at defending streamers' right to sign exclusive live-sports rights deals as the DOJ and FCC review whether the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 still fits a streaming-fragmented market. All three hold marquee sports commitments at stake: YouTube's 7-year NFL Sunday Ticket deal, Netflix's ~$5 billion 10-year WWE Raw deal, and Amazon's 11-year NBA agreement. Global sports-media rights spending is projected near $66 billion in 2026.

Billionaire Kenneth Dart pauses Flutter stake-building at 30%, builds rival DraftKings position
The Irish Times reported September 15 that Kenneth Dart has paused further Flutter Entertainment (FanDuel's parent) share purchases after his combined holdings crossed roughly 30% — the threshold that would trigger a mandatory UK/Irish takeover offer. Dart's Flutter position is down more than $4 billion in value amid a stock slide driven largely by fears that prediction-market entrants Kalshi and Polymarket are eating into sportsbook growth. Separately, Dart's Candle Lake vehicle disclosed a 5.8% stake in rival DraftKings in August.
