Dubai is a major hub and a popular winter trip, but the current US advisory for the UAE is serious. Read it before you book anything.
PUBLISHED 2026-10-09 · UPDATED 2026-10-09 · TRAVEL
Check the advisory first: as of its Aug 29, 2026 update, the U.S. State Department rates the United Arab Emirates Level 3, "Reconsider travel," citing terrorism and armed conflict. Read the current advisory at travel.state.gov, enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), and check cancellation terms on flights, hotels and insurance before paying for anything non-refundable.
Short answer: The State Department currently advises US citizens to reconsider travel to the UAE (Level 3, Aug 29, 2026). If you still go, US passport holders get a non-renewable visa on arrival for up to 90 days within 180 days, and the passport must be valid 6 months beyond arrival. Winter, November to April, is the comfortable season; July averages about 105°F.
Entry rules for US citizens
- Visa: US passport holders receive a non-renewable visa on arrival, up to 90 days within a 180-day period, per the State Department. Other sites list shorter stays, so confirm with your airline before flying.

- Money: the currency is the dirham (AED). Declare cash above AED 60,000. US cards are usually accepted at point of sale.
