AI: enterprise adoption, models & investment
The consumer-vs-enterprise AI race just had its biggest reversal yet.
Overview AI Robotics Infrastructure Power & Energy Human Integration AI Toolkit AI Marketplace Nanotechnology AI Responsibility
Investment angle (updated Sept 22, 2026): Anthropic's revenue lead over OpenAI has held through the fall — Axios reported Sept 3 that Anthropic's annualized revenue is on track to exceed $65 billion versus OpenAI's roughly $40 billion, though the two companies use different accounting for cloud-partner sales (Anthropic books the full transaction value; OpenAI books only its net share), so even a conservative like-for-like adjustment still leaves Anthropic with a $19–21 billion lead. The bigger near-term catalyst: Anthropic remains on track for a fall 2026 IPO on Nasdaq, while OpenAI's Sam Altman has said OpenAI will not go public in 2026, pushing its own listing to 2027 — meaning Anthropic will likely be the first of the two frontier labs retail investors can actually buy shares in. Reported valuations put Anthropic near $965 billion and OpenAI near $852 billion. OpenAI still leads by a wide margin on consumer reach and weekly active users, so this remains specifically an enterprise-revenue and IPO-timing story, not a full reversal of the AI race.

Nvidia in talks to anchor up to $10 billion into Anthropic's IPO
Reuters and Bloomberg reported September 11-13 that Nvidia is considering investing as much as $10 billion as an anchor investor in Anthropic's planned IPO, which could raise up to $100 billion and value the Claude maker near $2 trillion — potentially the largest IPO ever. Anthropic's annualized revenue run rate reportedly climbed above $65 billion by end of July, up from roughly $9 billion at the end of 2025. The IPO is expected to launch before the November US midterms, though terms remain under negotiation. Nvidia continues positioning itself as the indispensable capital and compute partner across the frontier-lab landscape, extending its already-disclosed exposure to OpenAI.

Cohere in advanced talks to raise $2-3B at a $20B valuation
As of September 11, Canadian AI startup Cohere was reportedly in advanced talks to raise between $2 billion and $3 billion at a $20 billion valuation — a deal that, if it closes, would be the largest private financing on record for a Canadian startup. The round underscores that despite a broader AI funding market that's grown more selective, capital is still chasing a handful of well-positioned "second tier" foundation model labs behind OpenAI and Anthropic. Cohere's enterprise-focused, non-consumer positioning offers a useful contrast to the consumer-facing giants — a smaller, differentiated bet inside the same megatrend rather than a wager on the market leader.
Sam Altman rules out an OpenAI IPO in 2026
Speaking to Fortune around September 12, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the company will not go public in 2026, calling it "an ill-advised moment" given ongoing safety and governance questions, and adding "we got a lot of stuff to do." The comment lands just as rival Anthropic is reportedly moving toward its own blockbuster IPO (see above), creating a notable divergence in strategy between the two largest US frontier labs. This removes OpenAI as a 2026 public-market entry point for investors chasing AI exposure, while Anthropic potentially becomes the first foundation-model pure play investors can actually buy.
